What should I know about an outdoor dog daycare?

An outdoor dog daycare offers incredible benefits — fresh air, space to roam, and natural surfaces to play on. At Kamaʻaina K9 Adventures, your dog gets to explore themed adventure parks designed for safe, supervised fun in a beautiful, open-air setting. However, not every dog is immediately used to this level of activity. Dogs new to outdoor daycare may experience sore paws at first, which usually resolve quickly with rest and a paw balm. Your pup may also get dirty — especially on rainy days — but we wipe down all dogs before pickup and will provide a bath if they’ve had an especially muddy adventure. While every playgroup is monitored and fresh water is always available, your dog may still be thirsty when they get home. And like any group daycare, the occasional minor scrape or scuffle can happen — but we’re always here to communicate with you and ensure your dog’s safety.

Why is my dog so tired after staying at Kamaʻaina K9 Adventures?

Our outdoor play yards give dogs the freedom to run, climb, sniff, and explore throughout the day — often much more than they would at home. Even the most energetic dogs can leave pleasantly exhausted after a day of active play. Rest and recovery are normal (and healthy) after a full day at our dog daycare or extended care program.

Why are my dog’s paws sore after a visit?

Dogs who aren’t used to outdoor activity or natural surfaces may experience tender paws after their first visit or two. This is a temporary adjustment. We recommend rest, gentle cleaning, and a paw balm to soothe any irritation. Most dogs quickly adapt and grow stronger with regular visits to our adventure park.

Why is my dog so thirsty after daycare?

Because our guests spend so much time being active outdoors, it’s not unusual for them to be extra thirsty after pickup — even though they have full access to clean water all day long. Just like people after a hike, dogs often drink more once they’re home and settled.

What kind of experience does your staff have?

Our team is made up of dedicated dog lovers with years of hands-on experience in dog handling, group play supervision, and animal care. Every new dog undergoes a temperament evaluation by a senior staff member before entering playgroups. Whether your dog is outgoing or a little shy, our trained staff is here to ensure a fun, safe experience tailored to your dog’s needs.

Do you offer overnight dog boarding?

Yes! Our Extended Care program gives your dog a true staycation while you travel. Dogs enjoy the same play-filled days in our adventure parks, followed by cozy accommodations at night. With an overnight attendant on site and familiar routines throughout the day, it’s a safe, fun option for Oʻahu residents who want peace of mind while they’re away.

Is Kamaʻaina K9 Adventures safe for large or small dogs?

Absolutely. We welcome dogs of all breeds, sizes, and ages — and we thoughtfully group play yards based on size and temperament. Whether you have a tiny terrier or a 200-pound mastiff, we’ve created an environment that allows every dog to feel comfortable, engaged, and secure.

Can I visit Kamaʻaina K9 Adventures before my dog’s first day?

Absolutely! We offer in-person tours of our outdoor facility by reservation. It’s a great chance to see our dog adventure park, meet our staff, and ask questions before your pup joins the fun.

How do I make a reservation?

You can reserve any of our services — including dog daycare, Extended Care, and Private Play — right here on our website. Just click the Reservations button at the top of the page. Reservations are required for all services, and spots can fill up fast, especially on weekends and holidays.

What vaccinations are required?

To ensure a safe and healthy environment for all our guests, we require proof of the following before your dog can participate in any service:

  • DHPP vaccine
  • Bordetella vaccine
  • General fecal test (annual)

We do our best to remind you when renewals are due, but it’s ultimately the owner’s responsibility to keep records up to date. Dogs without current documentation may not be admitted.
